Manager – Regulatory Affairs (Indian Subcontinent)

Location: Pune

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute effective proactive regulatory strategies and plans to ensure compliance with Indian and global chemical regulations. 
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and communicate their implications to stakeholders. 
  • As a key member of the global toxicology team, you will support with expert knowledge, advise and study monitoring with the local CRO’s to support in local and global tox testing needs.
  • Initiate strategies to leverage corporate competencies in regulatory affairs to drive industry recognition of BYK as an industry leader. 
  • Drive the Indian customer-focused efforts in the Regulatory Affairs team through direct customer engagements on regulatory topics. 
  • Identify and communicate business opportunities and threats arising from current and future Indian legislation and industry best practices in line with business or company-wide objectives; proactively monitor Indian regulation and regulatory changes that could represent risks or opportunities for the business.
  • Build a regulatory program for the Indian business with a focus on the product and technology portfolio. This includes but is not limited to standards affecting chemical control regulation (i.e., India REACH (CMS)) and labeling.
  • Provide support to the Indian Commercial team for special product registration activities; locally implement global processes to prioritize regulatory filings consistent with the needs of the business.
  • Lead the Indian Regulatory Affairs department in their activities and coach the team to create a positive employee experience.
  • Develop a strategic concept to locally build and lead a high-performing regulatory affairs team with global regulatory focus on India, managed by the Global Head of Regulatory Affairs.
  • This requires a deep understanding of national and international regulatory requirements, including REACH, GHS, BIS standards, and other relevant chemical regulations.
  • Represent BYK on assigned committees in relevant trade associations.
  • Act as the primary contact for regulatory authorities and external stakeholders.

The key accountabilities are not necessarily complete and can be extended when needed. Description should concentrate on impact on business and innovation (i.e., business contribution, nature and scope of responsibilities, range of activities, processes, projects).

Requirements

  • Successfully completed studies in the natural sciences, e.g. chemistry, toxicology or similar, preferably with a PhD, either with a focus on or additional education in toxicology
  • 10+ years of experience in product safety, regulatory affairs in the chemical industry
  • Strong knowledge of chemical regulatory frameworks in India and globally
  • Exceptional technical and managerial skills including strong leadership, proven people management skills and teamwork orientation and flexibility in an international culture
  • SAP experience is a must
  • Decision-making skills with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities and adapt priorities based on business needs
  • Excellent communication and (re)presentation skills
  • Strong situational analytical skills with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities
  • Self-driven personality looking for solutions for complex topics
  • Strong sense of confidentiality
